Educator Appraisal
Uprising Resource Balloon uses a metaphor of a balloon that inflates or deflates, which is a tangible way to help children understand complex concepts like stress, anger, or like calmness. It can be effective for younger students or those we send, as it makes abstract ideas more concrete and easier to grasp. I like that the resource encourages self regulation. I like that it promotes social skills and empathy through like peer interaction and helping students develop empathy and communication skills through learning about emotion and how the balloon changes shape in response to different situations. And I like that it supports a positive classroom environment. It's sort of trying to create this positive and safe and supportive classroom culture which will improve behaviour. I didn't like the the concept is quite abstract, so it might find students might find it difficult to relate to or like those who struggle with metaphors or who have like specific cognitive needs might need additional explanations or like might need to be adapted. Also like it would have varied student engagement, so like not all students will respond equally well to activities focused on emotional introspection. So some students, especially older ones, might feel uncomfortable or view these activities as less relevant compared to like academic content, which leads to very levels of engagement.

UpRising Resource bank is based off of research derived theory, however there is a lack of scientific evidence to suggest if it is an effective resource or not.
