Educator Appraisal
ABI addresses the needs of students with acquired brain injuries, which is a group often overlooked by general SEND resources. They provide specialised approach which provides sort of focused guidance for like complex needs and how to best support them in the classroom. I liked that it offers sort of a holistic approach which helps teachers in supporting the students overall well-being, so not just their academic progress, and I also like that it offers a lot of guidance for teachers on how to adjust the classroom. I didn't like that it is resource intensive so it would include specialised training and time for individualised planning and which can be challenging for schools with limited resources. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution, so every student with ABI will have a unique challenge and while ABI provides general strategies, it might not cover every specific need. And then it also requires a high level staff involvement. The programme has a high emphasis on collaboration and individualised planning means that teachers, school and other staff must be consistently engaged. It can be difficult to maintain in like larger or like under staffed schools.
